MSI Announces Wind U100 Series With 15Hrs Battery Life Netbook

MSI Wind U100 series netbook with Intel Pine Trail mobile platform is introduced.New Wind U160 netbook's design has already bagged Germany iF product design award. However, the most important aspect of this netbook is the battery life which is claimed to be 15 hours! There's no information about the availability and pricing of this netbook. Since Cebit 2010 convention starts next month, we expect to see this netbook to be displayed there.

Ultra-slim and lightweight, Wind U160 netbook sports a rod-like hinge that has blue LED clad power button. This netbook comes coated with scratch-resistant color-film-print and shows off Fancy Gold and XXX black color scheme.

Thanks to 1.66GHz Intel Pineview N450 processor and Intel NM10 Express chipset, this U100 series netbook will boasts of a 10+ hours battery life. Pineview is 45nm manufacturing process made chip with TDP rating of 5.5W and brings down power consumption by 20 per cent. Also, this processor is capable of running Windows 7 operating system and 720p HD graphic. Hence, Wind U160 comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 Starter edition.

MSI equips up to 2GB DDR2 667MHz memory and adds 160GB HDD by default. Wind U160's 10.1-inch widescreen LCD screen supports 1024x600 pixel resolution which might cause bit injustice to the N450 chip which is capable of 720p HD graphics. For graphics, MSI uses Intel GMA 3150 to power the gaming and video playback functions. The rest of the features of this netbook like Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, 1.3 megapixel webcam, and HD Audio with stereo speakers remain the same.

Its battery life will be the unique selling proposition of this Wind U160 netbook that also comes with MSI's ECO energy-saving technology that offers five modes to save power. Out of gaming, presentation, movies, word processing and Turbo battery, choose any mode and the screen brightness settings will be adjusted accordingly. Apparently, MSI has also added support for 3.5G mobile communications which would be offered only in select countries. MSI had earlier introduced U130 and U135 netbooks based on Intel Pine Trail processors.
